Smash Burgers

Sliced sandwich bread of choice

1.5lb ground beef

1 egg

1tsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt

Pepper

1 sweet onion

2 sticks of butter

Cheddar cheese (sliced or block)

Homemade Coleslaw

1/2 green cabbage

1/4 cup - 1/2 cup mayonnaise

2-4tbsp vinegar

2-4tbsp sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

This recipe can be made on a cast iron skillet or better yet on a Blackstone griddle.

Pre heat your skillet or griddle.

Begin by making your slaw. Slice your cabbage as thinly as possible and add to a large mixing bowl. Add your additional ingredients and mix well. Store in fridge until burgers are ready for assembly.

Mix burger patties by adding the ground beef, egg, Worcestershire, salt and pepper to a bowl and combine with your hands. Mix well.

Then slice your onion. Add 2tbs of butter and your onion to griddle/cast iron to begin caramelizing. Continue to stir onions while you cook your burgers and they will be ready when the burgers are complete.

Roll a ball of your patty mixture, a little bigger than a golf ball. Add a 1tbsp of butter right onto your cooking surface, then immediately place the patty ball ontop. Smash the patty thin with a burger smasher or pan.

While your patties are cooking on the first side, prep your sliced sandwich bread by buttering both sides. Once buttered, add to griddle/cook surface to brown. Flip after a minute or when golden brown.

Flip your burger patties after a minute or two, add sliced cheese and cover with foil or a burger dome so cheese has the ability to melt.

Once cheese is melted, assemble your burgers and enjoy!

……Y’all…… Y’all….. this burger.. Oh my gosh. This man is not allowed to make any other type of burger again. Ok well except his taco burger. But thats a different recipe. Anywho, this man is not allowed to make any other burger again. I need this one in my life all the time! Top this with so many different topping if you don’t like coleslaw. For example we love cowboy crunch, zucchini relish, hot sauce and pickles. But if you’re going to follow this recipe to a ’T’ then I recommend not even trying to add anything else to it. Just go into this recipe one time as the recipe describes it. I promise you will love it. If you don’t, well friend, you may need to get your tastebuds checked. You may be experiencing issues. Haha

Anywho, we absolutely love having this at home when we don’t want to have the house warmed up because of how hot the day is. But we also love making this when we are out on trips. We recently went to the beach and this was one of our meals. It was so simple but so darn good. Jeremy whipped this up in a matter of a few minutes. Now I’ll have to bug him for his recipes, but he also make his own buns. So burger, hot dogs and subs. He makes all of those on his own. This round we completely forgot to make the buns and had to rely on the bread we found at the store. To which, it worked and tasted just fine. I’m just a spoiled wife that absolutely loves my husbands cooking. So for all those looking for an outdoor meal, I recommend trying this!

OH! Before I forget we used our black stone, to which I know not everyone wants one or has the space, etc. But they make ones that can fit on your grill instead. Here is a link for that awesome hook up! https://amzn.to/4d7r4qf Now we use an actual blackstone but I have been hearing great things about this tool too. You also can make this all on your grill too. I just love telling you how we make it so you can get a feel for what we did!
