It didn’t even cross my mind to make a post to you all about how our family is doing currently and for that, my apologies. Helene hit our area this past week around 7:45 am on Friday morning. Through it all and seeing the destruction for many different areas of NC, I didn’t think to keep everyone updated. Then when I continued to receive calls and messages from lots of people for the last few days, thats when I realized that I needed to take a moment and update everyone. So we did so on our social media but I figured let’s get a little more in-depth here!
We were just East enough that we truly had what most would call a bad thunderstorm. Around 7:45 we heard the down pour of rain, the gushing wind and the thunder. It looked so dark here at the house. It ended up only lasting to about 10 am. Then we turned into a heavy rain storm. One full of rain and that lasted until about 2 pm. So we truly only had to deal with about 9ish hours of any type of weather. It was one of the easier hurricanes that we have had to deal with. I say this in the sense that we have had storms and other hurricanes come through that have actually cause tree’s to fall and damage done to vehicles and our camper. So this one we were able to clean up with just a simple wheelbarrow and a bonfire. Small limbs fell off trees and that was the extent of our damage. We were very fortunate on this front.
Now about 2 hours away from us is where a lot of the damage was done. In the Asheville and Hendersonville area to be exact. There are more areas than this that were damaged but this just gives you a better idea of what I mean. They are currently out of power, cell service, lots of damaged roads, no clean water and so on. There are currently multiple different people in our area that are taking donations so they can drive them to the areas. Now there is one direction to Asheville that I believe may be cut off. I know at least half of the highway was taken down in a landslide. Im not fully sure about all of the other roads. There have also been reports of deaths from this hurricane and many reports of missing people.
At this moment, it looks like many areas are starting to clear up from the water but obviously lots are still under water. With that lots of houses and businesses have been lost. This one looks like it will take a little bit until everyone can recover from this hurricane.
So to put it honestly, we truly faired easily from this entire hurricane. We were able to continue with life and it didn’t hinder us in any form. We were very fortunate and truly can not be any more thankful than we currently are. I know of one family in that area and just heard confirmation that they are alive but with out power currently. They weren’t able to talk much so thats all the information that I received from them. So prayers for them and prayers for everyone that suffered because of Helene.
