Homestead Festival Recap!

Homestead Festival Recap!

Amanda Shenk

I kinda can’t believe it that we have already finished The Homestead Festival and are back home. It always seems to go by so fast but this year turned into a bit of a quicker time. Sadly there were some big spans of rain and storms. To which usually we don’t mind. But Saturday, with all that was coming at us, I was a bit concerned.

We started our trip on Wednesday and parked the camper at the same spot as we did last year. This couple is downright wonderful and saved the space for us. I wont be surprised if we have the same space next year too. So we get parked, settled in and take a chill night.

Thursday we slept in and then spent a good time working on different things to prepare for the time off we were about to experience. As you all know Jeremy does website work for lots of people and I do a lot of blogging and content work (along side all the household items and homeschooling). So we took the time to get everything prepped before we left for a few hours and then for a few days of in person work. Around the afternoon, we met with Jill from Whispering Willow and helped set up her booth space for the festival. Then back to the camper to relax and get ready for an early night.

Friday we were at the festival by 6:30 am and we were running from the start. It seemed to have been a little slower than normal festival times but at the same time I felt like we were going nonstop. Once we got to the point where we all had a breather and settled in, I that is when Jeremy managed to walk away from the booth and surprise me with a new hat. Y’all, I will be sharing that thing soon on our social media. I’m in love. Any who, shortly after that we had a moment that I was genuinely surprised by.

You see, for the last few months Sky has been asking about having a cat. I have not been so comfortable with this. Jeremy and I have been talking and he has expressed that he didn’t want any more animals in the house. I fully understand as we have 6 dogs and a bird in here already. But Sky kept asking. So what does a mom do when she doesn’t have any better ideas? She prays. She downright prays. So I flat out said to the Lord that if he wants us to have a cat, then this cat is going to need to drop in our laps. I can’t do the searching for it. Ironically I was just looking at the humane society page to see if they needed any help with bottle feeders and thought this may be a good route too. Well in fact it wasn’t the answer. I kept praying. Then we go to the homestead festival and this lady is carrying around an animal carrier. Someone speaks up and asks what was in the carrier. The lady goes “oh its a kitten! We were driving here when a kitten jumped out in the road and we stopped. But when I went to get out to get it, it went into the next lane of cars and thankfully the car straddled him and the kitten was ok. Then I picked him up and we got a carrier from Walmart and here we are. Do you know anyone that wants a kitten?” So a kitten fell in our lap. We are now the proud owners of a 4 week old stray kitten and this thing so far loves to cuddle up for naps.

After this amazing kitten moment, we were back to working hard at the homestead festival and dealing with rain storms. We got through it and then opened the tent back up to talk with anyone that stayed. Once we got back to the camper, we took a chill night and got everyone to bed early!

Saturday was the crazy day. Literally everyone was running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Jill had a talk and Jeremy went with for photos and social media content for Jill. While they were out, Nathan and myself worked to take care of the booth and all the munchkins. Once Jill finished her talk, we had a rush of people coming to talk with her so I was running around to help get anyone purchasing items, checked out. While Jeremy assisted Jill with anything she needed. Sadly this only lasted until about 1:30 when some crazy storms came through. I had seen that sky and instantly started to pack up anything that could be ruined. Then we ended up deciding to just pack up the entire booth space as we were cleared to leave completely. Sky ended up getting really sick around this time so Jeremy and I made the decision to head home since they weren’t fully packing up everything. We made it back to the camper and just rode out the storm. Once again a chill night and add in packing up the camper so we could travel. Then you know exactly what we accomplished the rest of the night!!!

Sunday was travel day! One of the smoothest travels too. I genuinely couldn’t complain. Then we get home and get almost everything unpacked before it got too dark. I think we had the kids room left to work on before we called it cleaned out.

Now It is Wednesday, I haven’t touched a thing really but that is my goal for tomorrow. I managed to start a flare yesterday and now Im in the think of it while not actually listening to my body. So I have been trying to chill out and I just spent the last about 2 hours having my kids lay on me because their allergies are flaring. So tomorrow will be clean up day. I have multiple baskets of clean laundry laying around, hand washing dishes need done, more laundry cleaned, vacuuming and just general cleaning up. We are taking today as a chill out day!!! Alright! I will be back to update y’all on the garden. Cause we need to get that figured out too!!! So I will chat with you soon!
